Fragaria, Washington

Fragaria is an unincorporated community in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The name ‘Fragaria’ comes from the genus of flowering plants in the rose family, commonly known as strawberries. According to the book "Washington State Place Names," the name "Fragaria" was chosen sometime between 1912 and 1914 by town platter Ferdinand Schmidtz "in recognition of the berry's successful growth in the area."〔''Washington State Place Names'', 1993 by Doug Brokenshire〕
Fragaria was built around a pier that served as one of several ports for the boats of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet such as the steamship Virginia V which used the port between 1922 and 1938, the Virginia V is one of the last ferrys from the Mosquito Fleet era that is still operable in this region and it is on the National Register of Historic Landmarks.
